Superintendent Letter of Support

Statements

  1. Experience: What is your current administrative position? How long have you served in that capacity? What was your path to obtain it?
While this is my first year at Lapeer High School as Principal, I have been a building administrator since the 2012-2013 school year. After being an ELA teacher and multi-sport coach at Lake Orion High School for several years, I moved to South Lake High School (St. Clair Shores), where I was district AD and AP at SLMS. I then moved back to Lake Orion, where I served for twelve years in building administration as an Assistant Principal at Oakview Middle School and Lake Orion High School.

  2. Performance: Tell us about any awards, accolades or important points of pride related to your career.
    • Past AP East Region Board Member (MASSP)
    • Administrative leadership role on two successful school funding initiatives
    • Speaker and presenter on leadership, Restorative Practices, and building community.
    • Past Board member for MHSPLA and 3 time State Championship Head Coach at LOHS in Powerlifting. Position coach at LOHS for State Runner Up (2008) and State Championship team 2010.

  3. Education: What post-secondary degrees have you obtained and from where? What additional continuing education have you received? Do you have a particular area of focus/expertise?
    • I earned my Bachelor of Science (English/Secondary Education) from Northern Michigan University, Master of Science (HPER) from Emporia State (KS) , Ed.S. (Education Administration) from Oakland University, and Ed.D. (Organizational Leadership), also from Oakland University.
    • My area of focus in pragmatic, “real-world” problem solving. A theme of my work is to find solutions that are mutually beneficial for all parties and build community. This work has taken me beyond my administrative roles to working with municipalities, law enforcement, and community groups in both Restorative Practices and conflict resolution.

  4. Statement of Intent: Why are you seeking this position on the MASSP Board of Directors?
The MASSP plays a critical role in education and advocacy for Michigan secondary-level administrators. I know this in the stories I heard as AP East Region representative and from my own personal experience. Administrators need and deserve support more than ever, and an advocate for them at the local and state level. I believe I can be a representative who hears and acts for Michigan’s diverse regions.

The MASSP truly is “The Premier Education Association” and the focus on continual learning and producing high-quality events separates the organization from others. From my past experience on the Board and in my work with administrators from across the state, I can speak to the tremendous learning and professional growth that comes from being an active member and leader in the MASSP.
