- Experience: What is your current administrative position? How long have you served in that capacity? What was your path to obtain it?
I currently serve as the principal of Howell High School where my family and I live and have held this position for the last 13 years. Before becoming a head principal I was an assistant principal for five years and a high school math teacher for seven years prior to that. - Performance: Tell us about any awards, accolades or important points of pride related to your career.
I have been fortunate to earn the YFU Award for Educational Innovation, the Clas Nobel Educator of Distinction, and was humbly recognized as the MASSP Principal of the year (2018). I pride myself on being part of a team that brings out the strongest and best of others. I have helped coach strong leadership who have been hands on in developing innovative programs while leading initiatives that have earned statewide recognition including an MCAN Impact Award, a Fulbright Scholarship, a Unified Champion School award, launching one of the first HOPE Squads in Michigan, and continuing to support our students as they raise funds through our annual Senior Survivor fundraiser. - Education: What post-secondary degrees have you obtained and from where? What additional continuing education have you received? Do you have a particular area of focus/expertise?
I hold a BA (Mathematics major, Psychology minor) from Michigan State University as well as an MA in Curriculum and Teaching. I earned my Educational Specialist degree from Liberty University with a focus on Educational Leadership. I continue to have a strong interest in professional development and am trained in Restorative Practices and am a MASSP Strengthening Leaders mentor coach. - Statement of Intent: Why are you seeking this position on the MASSP Board of Directors?
As a dedicated advocate for education, I am seeking reelection to the MASSP board to continue championing the needs of our region’s schools, students, and educators. Over the past term, I’ve worked to amplify your voices, address the challenges we face, and prioritize initiatives that empower principals as instructional leaders. I’m committed to fostering collaboration, sharing innovative practices, and advocating for policies that support equitable opportunities and academic excellence for all students. With your support, I’ll continue to prioritize practical solutions that address our shared challenges, strengthen our schools, and support the vital work of school leaders in our region.
