- Experience: What is your current administrative position? How long have you served in that capacity? What was your path to obtain it?
I have worked as an Assistant Principal for a 6-12 grade level building since February of 2020. In order to reach my goal of becoming an administrator, I chose the Path to Leadership program through MASSP for my credentialing. I had already achieved my goal of a Master’s in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessement and felt this was a great step in lieu of obtaining another Master’s degree. Prior to being an Assistant Principal, I was a Special Education teacher for 17 years in all grade levels, but primarily at the high school level. I have taught in several schools, and started my career in Desert Hot Springs, California, and ended up back at the high school where both of my parents graduated (50 years ago). - Performance: Tell us about any awards, accolades or important points of pride related to your career.
During my career at Engadine Consolidated schools, I was educator of the year. Currently am serving in the capacity of an AP fellow from the first cohort of the AP fellowship program through MASSP and MCAN. It has been rewarding to research and work with an amazing group of fellowship members. I am especially proud to present at my first conference with our Special Education coordinator this January. - Education: What post-secondary degrees have you obtained and from where? What additional continuing education have you received? Do you have a particular area of focus/expertise?
I have obtained a Bachelors degree in Education from Western Michigan University, as well as a Master’s degree in Curriculum Instruction and Assessment from Walden University. I have continued my education not only through the Path to Leadership, but also reading as many leadership and education books that I can get my hands on. I am particularly interested in the area of post-secondary achievement for students with disabilities as well as my recent interest in schools who are creating portraits of a graduate. - Statement of Intent: Why are you seeking this position on the MASSP Board of Directors?
MASSP has provided school leaders with accessible, relevant, and actionable information for Principals and Assistant Principals alike. I am eager to transition from being a recipient of this invaluable support to contributing as a member of the Board of Directors. I aspire to influence school legislation and support the association in achieving its strategic goals. Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to enhancing the education, safety, and well-being of school-aged children in my community and across the state. MASSP has provided opportunities to enrich my professional network and leadership abilities. This board position aligns seamlessly with my expertise, and I am confident that I can serve as a vital connection and advocate for Assistant Principals in this role.
