Statements

  1. Experience: What is your current administrative position? How long have you served in that capacity? What was your path to obtain it?
I have been an educator for more than twenty (20) years. I am currently the Assistant Principal at Charlotte High School in Charlotte, Michigan. Before this role, I served for two years as the Assistant Principal at Eaton Rapids High School in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Before transitioning to administration, I taught chemistry in the Detroit Public Schools Community District and at Waverly High School in Lansing, Michigan. I also served as Science Department Chair during my teaching career.

  2. Performance: Tell us about any awards, accolades or important points of pride related to your career.
I am particularly proud of the work accomplished alongside a team of educators to significantly increase the enrollment of minority students in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate courses at an inner-city school. Together, we also launched a coding club and introduced AP Computer Science Principles as a course offering, providing minority students with exposure to S.T.E.M. careers and opportunities.

  3. Education: What post-secondary degrees have you obtained and from where? What additional continuing education have you received? Do you have a particular area of focus/expertise?
I earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Wayne State University, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.

  4. Statement of Intent: Why are you seeking this position on the MASSP Board of Directors?
I share the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals’ (MASSP) commitment to improving secondary education and strengthening leadership. I aim to contribute to advancing secondary education in Michigan by leveraging my experience from working in both rural and urban school districts to guide strategic decision-making. I advocate for policies, practices, and programs that benefit students from diverse backgrounds and demographics. As a member of the MASSP Board of Directors, I will support all educators, particularly its approximately 1,800 members, and uphold its century-long legacy of excellence. Additionally, I will promote key programs such as Path to Leadership and the Digital Learning Network, while seeking to expand the Association’s influence on legislative decisions.
