As your Association we want you to know you can count on us to be your resource and support in good times and in bad.  We are all in this together and we are committed to making your life less stressful during this time of uncertainty. To this end we will be providing the following opportunities and supports:

  • This past Friday we sent the first edition of the COVID-19 Update. This will go out everyday Monday through Friday until the news cycle slows.  We will collect everything that has come out on each given day from MDE, the Governor’s Office and other key reporting outlets forwarded by bullet points to make it easier to digest.
  • We will offer a weekly Zoom Leader2Leader meeting beginning this Thursday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.  Bob and I will provide updates from the state and federal level both legislative and MDE related.  We also have the technology capabilities to facilitate smaller group discussions after the update.
    • This week we plan to include the following topics:
      • Continuing learning online
      • Low tech options to continue learning
      • Graduation contingency plans
      • Teacher, employee, and student mental health (morale boosters)

If you are willing to share things you/your district are doing in any of these areas to kick off the breakout, please email me- wendyz@michiganprincipals.org

  • The Friday COVID-19 Update will include a weekly learning opportunity roadmap. One will be geared 6-8 and the other 9-12. For districts that do not have online learning or plans in place for students to remain engaged with academic content this will provide some solid suggestions with a daily schedule.
  • Khan Academy provides a great opportunity for students K-12 to continue to engage in learning during the school shut down. Students in grades 9-11 can use this time to complete their SAT Official SAT practice personalized remediation via Khan Academy. MASSP will be offering free webinars which will be recorded for students and parents explaining how to take advantage of this great resource. Once we have the dates/times set we will send you information you can share with your stakeholders to join us.

Lastly, we want to start an FAQ of things you would like us to address or find answers to for the Zoom meeting on Thursday. Please email your questions to alicia@michiganprincipals.org by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 and they will be included this week. Questions after that time will be addressed in the next Leader2Leader on Thursday, March 26.  I want to applaud all of you for the above and beyond work you have been doing to make things work for your students, staff and community.
