Learning for both students and teachers looks incredibly different this school year.  With so many new learning environments to accommodate remote, virtual or hybrid instruction, your staff has been learning new skills to ensure student success.

But what about YOU?

It’s incredibly important that administrators are staying informed and planning your own professional learning to ensure student and teacher success.  Why not stay current and move forward in your career and walk the talk by taking online classes yourself in order to gain the experience that your students are also going through?

MASSP has you covered!  In order to assist with the new learning experiences many are facing, we have expanded our online course offerings through the Digital Learning Network.  Below are just a few courses that offer relevant content to your role as an Assistant Principal or Dean of Students, while being flexible and self-paced so you can decide when the best time is to log in and learn.

Understanding Human Behavior through Restorative Practices (Self-Paced) - 3 SCECHs
This online course introduces participants to the social science of human behavior and how to use this understanding to build and repair relationships in a school through restorative practices, which integrates best practices from a variety of disciplines and fields, including education, psychology, social work, criminology, sociology, organizational development, and leadership.

Foundations of Restorative Practices & Circles (Self-Paced) - 5 SCECHs
Participants in this course will learn practical strategies to build strong, healthy relationships with students, families, employees, and colleagues. Real life scenarios and experiences bring you to a deeper understanding of the fundamental unifying premise of restorative practices—that people are happier, more cooperative and productive and more and more likely to make positive changes in their lives when those in positions of authority do things with them rather than to them or for them. Through video and digital re-enactments, participants will identify reliable methods for using circles to build community, establish norms and address behavior and relationships which is useful in any setting from education and other human services to organizational management.

Project Gameplan: Keeping Compliant Scenarios (Self-Paced) - 6 SCECHs
As part of MASSP's Digital Learning Network, these self-facilitated courses will provide learners with the opportunity to review and understand important laws put in place to protect students and the school community. Topics to be covered include: Mandatory Reporting, Zero-Tolerance, and Anti-Bullying. In the course modules, learners will review basic laws and requirements, as well as how to interpret those requirements in a school building when working with students and staff. These modules provide a variety of learning activities including scenario games, quizzes, case studies, reflect & respond questions, as well as document and video reviews. Learners will also be able to compare and contrast their current building and district policies to the current laws.

Student Mental Health 101: Trends, What To Do & Who Can Help
This course will focus on providing educators with options and strategies working with students with mental health issues.  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will review current statistical trends, identify individuals in the school setting who are equipped to support these students and explain how outside agencies can be part of the solution as well.  Additional training is used to assist participants in how to respond to a student mental health crisis.

Trauma-Informed Schools: A Whole School Approach - 6 SCECHs
This course aims to answer the following questions: What is a trauma-informed approach and how does it impact the classroom?  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will identify key trauma statistics and terminology and compare and contrast proactive vs reactive strategies to support these students in the classroom.  The course will also provide building-level strategies and resources.
