“We are in the midst of a painful transition, between an old world that is dying and a new one that is struggling to be born. Such shifts are inevitably fraught with danger. Yet for all their destructive potential, they are also full of possibility.” Jerome Roos, Fellow at the London School of Economics
Educators have a vital role to play in shaping the future of education within this digital revolution. However, to shape our future, we must understand it. And that future is happening now! Students are already engaging with “big data” and mobile technology while leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to personalize communication, learning and entertainment. Teachers’ and school administrators’ work is supported and enhanced by tools powered by AI, including early warning systems, spelling and grammar checks, adaptive testing, Alexa and Siri, search engines, and more. As a society we are not knee deep, but neck deep in AI, but we rarely take time to consider ways we can deepen our practice, expand its utility and raise awareness to avoid potential challenges it presents.
Catalyst23 will take participants “One Foot in the Future” to dream – and then to do something about it. Rather than feel overwhelmed by this, we hope it lights a path forward. Our keynote speaker, Will Richardson, will provoke, inspire, and nurture real optimism for the future. This powerful address will cover frameworks, tools, and lenses to help educators imagine what comes next.
