Every year the SET SEG Foundation provides $30,000 in scholarships to send more than 60 students to the Michigan Association of Student Councils and Honor Societies Summer Leadership Camp.

This year, on July 14 hundreds of students across the state will arrive at Albion College and embark on an introspective journey, learning about how they can improve internally while working with others. Through hands-on experiential leadership activities, students are put in situations where they must work together for a desired outcome.

By utilizing a peer-to-peer facilitation model, students create partnerships and establish ownership in their own growth, leaving them with employable skills and tangible tactics they can take home to their own schools and communities.

Matt Alley, Director of Student Services at the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, has served as the director of the Summer Leadership Camp for 11 years. He explains how a unique curricular philosophy paired with a staff full of passionate and dedicated educators creates a space where students feel safe to share their life experiences while also challenging themselves to go beyond their comfort zones.

“We challenge every camper to be authentic and to take small steps out of their comfort zone,” said Alley. “The transformation of each kid in such a short time is remarkable.”

Scholarship winners will be announced soon at setseg.org/camp!
