MASSP Members have consistently identified SEL as a legislative priority and a topic that needs to be addressed for both students and staff. With these important ideas in mind, MDE is encouraging teachers and administrators in school buildings across Michigan to partner in MDE’s Children Matter. You Matter. Learn SEL! effort. A free course in SEL is being offered through Michigan Virtual, and MDE has asked that a building leader and at least two to four teachers from every school complete the two-hour training.
In partnership with the Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Virtual has also created a series of free online courses that inform educators on best practices in social emotional learning:
- Introduction to SEL (6 SCECHs)
- Integrating SEL Into Culturally Responsive Classrooms (6 SCECHs)
- Embedding SEL Schoolwide (6 SCECHs)
- Creating a Professional Culture Based on SEL (6 SCECHs)
- Trauma-Informed Support (8 SCECHs)
