MASSP’s premier event of the year is called EdCon. For those who have not attended this event, it spans June 27pm- June 29am and it draws hundreds of assistant principals and principals from all over the State of Michigan. We bring in the best keynote speakers, provide time for practitioner led breakout sessions and opportunities for professional networking. This year we are trying a slightly different format to allow for more role/level collaboration. We will run three concurrent keynotes- Dr. Penny Bishop, will be the keynote for Middle School Principal attendees.
This will be an extended keynote time slot to allow for during session collegial sharing and table talk. MASSP knows how helpful it is for administrators in like roles to connect, discuss their work and expand professional networks. The basis of Dr. Bishop’s keynote will be her most recent book, The Successful Middle School, This We Believe, published in January of 2021.
EdCon provides school administrative teams the opportunity to debrief the 2021-22 school year, think about direction for the 2022-23 school year and select learning sessions that will help to deepen understanding on important topics and gain ideas from colleagues during breakout sessions. EdCon is also a family friendly event held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City. The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools and Traverse City is a great area with shopping, beaches and family friendly activities for your partner and/or children to enjoy while you are at the event. There is a family picnic one evening that includes bounce houses, face painting and fun activities for the kids. After a long, stressful school year this conference is a great way to decompress, gather with colleagues and begin to reconnect with your partner and/or family. We hope that you, along with the administrative team from your school as well as secondary colleagues from other schools in your district, will be able to join us! After two years of not being able to be together in-person for EdCon this year’s conference will be a very special experience.
