MASSP & MASC/MAHS are excited to announce we have expanded our Administrators of the Year Awards Program! We are now accepting nominations for the 2025-26 Principal of the Year (POY) and 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year (APOY) and will be awarding a Middle School and High School leader in each category!
Michigan's Middle/High School Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year are innovative servant-leaders, who show integrity, implement instructional leadership, are good communicators, support staff and students and much more. These awards recognize the incredible work Principals and Assistant Principals do to progress student activity groups, school leaders and their building culture.
The MS/HS POY and APOY are selected by the MASC/MAHS Student Board of Delegates and the MASSP Board of Directors.
We’re updating our awards program and timelines to align with the updates happening at the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Additional details are provided below. Please take a moment to review the updated timeline and nomination information packets before accessing the submission forms, as there are items that have been slightly adjusted.
PROCESS / TIMELINE
- September 13 | Applications are due by 5:00 p.m.
- September 14 – 22 | MASC/MAHS selection committee convenes and selects top 3-5 candidates as finalists to be sent to the MASSP selection committee to review.
- Mid-October | Nominees & finalists recognized in Headlines & on social media
- Winner, other nominees and nominators for all awards will be notified by mid October of their application status. Announcement of all four awards (MS/HS APOY & POY) will happen by the end of October 2024.
- By End of October | Winners will be recognized in an email to membership and on social media.
- December 15 | National application due for awards
- February 2025 | Winners recognized (if able) at the MASC/MAHS Student Leadership State Conference
- April 2025 | State Assistant Principal of the Year celebration
- June 2025 | Winners attend and are recognized at MASSP’s annual EdCon conference
- July 2025 | NASSP State Principal of the Year celebration & national conference
- Both State APOYs & POYs will be invited to the national conference. Different items are covered depending on the award.

Due to the adjustments of the National POY timeline to be in sync with the National APOY timeline, the MS and HS POYs will be noted as 2025-26 this year and then moving forward will be recognized by a single year 2026. MASSP and MASC/MAHS are excited to recognize more administrators for the incredible work they do for the students in Michigan. Please consider nominating a building administrator to be considered for one of these prestigious awards.
