High School Summer Leadership Camp & Middle Level Summer Leadership Camp 2022

Summer Camp save the date: July 17-22

At MASC/MAHS Michigan Student Leadership Camp, leaders are brought together from all different schools and demographics with the goal of improving their schools, communities and themselves. Camp is designed to teach the principles of effective leadership and to provide practical experience in applying these skills as student leaders. With two dedicated camp programs, this opportunity is open to students grades 7-8 (Middle Level Camp) and 9-12 (High School camp).

Both camps will take place on the campus of Albion College in Albion Michigan during the week of July 17-22, 2022. This year’s theme is Agents of Change. All students interested in developing their leadership skills are welcome to attend. Students do not need to be formally involved in their schools student leadership but this connection is encouraged.

“I can’t give enough gratitude towards the camp program for all it has done for me. I came into level one as a freshmen and it was my very first introduction to leadership… Camp is a place for student leaders to tackle big problems in a safe and supportive environment. These are the discussions that empower us to create widespread change,” said Anna McManus, a junior at Troy High School. “Thanks to camp, I have a network of dependable leaders who share similar experiences. I greatly credit camp for my success as a student leader and my success as an individual.”

Our staff of experienced leadership educators and volunteers present students with relevant issues for thought, discussion and practice. Participants receive valuable experience in leadership training by working together in councils of peers. Camp is packed with hands-on, engaging activities for students in a broad range of organizations. Whether you are a member of a student council, honor society, athletic team, drama club, or anything in between – leadership skills are universal and can be taught!

“I may be biased, but I attribute MASC/MAHS Leadership Camp to me becoming the person I am today,” said Lauren Raich, Senior Counselor. “Leadership camp has a way of teaching life lessons without it seeming like a lecture. While yes, this camp focuses primarily on the pillars of leadership, it also teaches students how to simply be a good person. You get what you give at camp, but I guarantee students will leave with a different mindset than when they came.”

New for 2022: Middle Level Camp!
Another exciting feature of this year’s camp program will be the addition of a Middle School Leadership strand during the same week! Our Middle School Leadership Camp is designed to engage our younger leaders on the importance of leadership dynamics, how to establish vision, building your own leadership toolbox and so much more!

Our Middle School camp program will operate much the same as our traditional High School program, utilizing both a Senior Counselor (current educator) and a Junior Counselor (member of the College Volunteer Facilitators Corp.) to facilitate activities, discussions, and lead group work in small councils.

“My favorite memories from being a Level 1 Camper in the summer of 2021 were the discussions that my group had. The fact that we had all never met, but continued to step out of our comfort zones and share important parts of our lives and have tough conversations was so valuable,” said Archana Chandran, senior at Livonia Churchill High School. “I will also never forget all the dancing, chanting, and fun activities. Finally I am so so thankful that I was able to meet my future roommate, Sofia, at camp. Thank you masc/mahs for this amazing experience and I hope to be back this summer.”

Engaging Content!
Activities will occur within each camper’s council, within an all-camp setting, as well as in formal and informal settings. Striving to reach students with different learning styles, campers in our Middle Level Camp curriculum will see leadership concepts presented through experiential activities, peer presentations, interactive media, and in one-on-one conversation. All-camp activities such as MOGA (Most Outrageous Group Activities), personal reflection and action planning, the Mega Mixer, as well as our Leadership: Center Stage and final evening celebration round out a camp experience that student leaders will never forget.
