Superintendent Letter of Support

Statements

  1. Experience: What is your current administrative position? How long have you served in that capacity? What was your path to obtain it?
This is my 18th year in education, with 12 years in administrative roles. I began as a teacher for 6 years, which gave me a strong understanding of effective instruction and student support. I then transitioned into administration as Dean of Students and Athletic Director for two years, gaining experience in student management and extracurricular coordination. I later took on the combined role of Middle/High School Principal, Athletic Director, and Transportation Director, managing both academic and operational aspects. I also served as an Elementary Principal for 6 years, creating a nurturing environment for younger students. Currently, I serve as the 6-12 Principal at Brethren MS/HS, in my first year with the district, overseeing both campuses and aligning programs with district goals.

  2. Performance: Tell us about any awards, accolades or important points of pride related to your career.
One of my greatest points of pride is the long-lasting relationships I’ve built with students and their families. Parents trust that I have their child’s best interests at heart, and this has led to a strong, supportive partnership between home and school. Many past students and families continue to reach out to me, and I am honored to be invited to milestones like former students’ weddings. These enduring connections reflect the trust and care I invest in every student. Beyond relationships, I’m proud of the positive impact my leadership has had on school culture and student success, creating an environment where students feel supported and motivated to thrive.

  3. Education: What post-secondary degrees have you obtained and from where? What additional continuing education have you received? Do you have a particular area of focus/expertise?
I hold a Master’s in K-12 School Administration from Central Michigan University. In addition to my formal education, I’ve completed extensive training in trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning. My expertise includes working with students and families affected by trauma and those living in poverty. I’ve gained years of experience supporting students who face these challenges, ensuring they have the necessary resources and a safe, supportive environment to succeed. My focus on trauma and poverty has deeply informed my leadership and approach to fostering equity, resilience, and academic success for all students.

  4. Statement of Intent: Why are you seeking this position on the MASSP Board of Directors?
I am seeking a position on the MASSP Board of Directors to give back to the educational community and support fellow administrators. As a secondary principal in a rural area, I understand the challenges faced by schools in Region 2, where limited resources and geographic isolation can hinder access to support and professional development. I aim to advocate for these districts, ensuring their needs are addressed. Additionally, I want to support building leaders in our region, helping them navigate challenges and fostering collaboration. I’m committed to strengthening leadership and advocating for the success of every student in our area.
