This fall, the Michigan High School Esports League (MHSEL), in partnership with Special Olympics Michigan and PlayVS, is proud to host a special webinar designed to help schools launch a Unified Esports program. The Unified Esports: Inclusion Through Gaming webinar will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 9:00–10:00 AM.
Unified Esports creates a unique extracurricular opportunity where students with and without disabilities come together as teammates to compete in a structured, supportive gaming league. For many students with special needs, participation in school activities has historically been limited. Unified Esports breaks down those barriers by offering a highly engaging, low-cost program where students can build friendships, improve social and communication skills, and feel a sense of belonging — all while representing their school in competition.
During the webinar, you’ll hear from current Unified coaches and learn how this program has transformed the school experience for students who may otherwise feel excluded. You’ll discover how easy it is to start a team, recruit players, and coach inclusive practices that foster teamwork and empathy. Game titles like Mario Kart and Rocket League are accessible, easy to learn, and don’t require advanced skills or expensive equipment, making the program a natural fit for schools of any size or budget.
