Helping Students Break Free from Vaping: Two Free Webinars for Principals

The start of a new school year is always filled with energy, but it also brings challenges. One issue facing nearly every secondary building is vaping. Students are experimenting earlier, and principals are often the first line of support when parents, teachers, and students look for answers. This fall, MDHHS is offering two free webinars that will give you practical resources and strategies you can put to use immediately in your school.

Webinar 1: My Life, My Quit Resources
Date: September 11 @ 1pm
This session introduces educators to My Life, My Quit™, a free tobacco and vape treatment program tailored for youth. Participants will learn how to guide students through the enrollment process, how to reinforce the development of personalized quit plans, and how to make use of the program’s evidence-based tools. My Life, My Quit offers students access to trained youth coaches, text and phone-based support, an app for Apple and Google devices, and a library of resources designed for educators, parents, and health care professionals. The program also provides downloadable promotional materials, a social media toolkit for school use, and certificates of completion for students who finish the program. Fourth graders learn about the chemicals in nicotine products, the health problems associated with use, the financial costs, and most importantly, the skills to resist peer pressure and make healthier choices. The program has been adapted over the years to address vaping, making it a timely and effective prevention tool for schools looking to engage both older and younger students in tobacco prevention education. Presenters Liz Lenz and Bree Gladstone will share their experience and provide guidance for schools interested in using this model. This free webinar is ideal for all administrators, teachers, counselors and any health and well-being staff!
