Meet Your Incoming Board Representatives
Polls closed on Friday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m., for MASSP’s Board of Directors 2026 Election. This year’s group of candidates are all exceptional administrators and we want to thank them for taking the initiative to run for a position. We appreciate the support and engagement of all members who took the time to vote for their representatives. MASSP is proud to announce the results of the 2026 Board of Directors Election by welcoming new and returning Board members.
MASSP’s bylaws allow members to serve up to two three-year terms and to serve one additional three-year term on the Executive Board or as the NASSP Coordinator if elected (for a total of three terms). Any person appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors for a period greater than two years of a term shall be considered to serve one term in that position.
Election results:
- Assistant Principal Eastern: Cathy Skutch, Bloomfield Hills High School Associate Principal
Additionally, there were seven seats filled with candidates who ran unopposed:
- President-Elect: Ben Berger, Traverse City Central High School Principal
- Region 8: Theresa Stager, Saline High School Principal; Dexter High School Principal beginning July 1
- Region 9: Ryan Sines, Fraser High School Principal
- Region 11: Nicole Carter, Novi High School Principal
- Middle Level Central: Patrick Weber, Leslie Middle School Principal
- *Assistant Principal West: Nathaniel Moody, Valleywood Middle School Assistant Principal
- At-Large: Monica Pierce, Jackson High School Principal
Congratulations and welcome new and returning Board members. We anticipate that their skills and experiences will be a valuable contribution to our BoD and to the association. Terms of office officially begin in June, following the Transition of Officers Reception, for their three-year term ending on June 30, 2029. *AP West Rep is filling a pre-existing term that will end June 30, 2028.
Ben Berger will be the next member to join our Executive Board as MASSP’s new President-Elect.
“I am honored and excited to serve as President-Elect of MASSP,” Berger said. “This work can be isolating, but together we are stronger. At my core, I’m a connector, and I believe our strength lies in supporting one another to create belonging, clarity, and growth. I look forward to working alongside colleagues across the state to strengthen our association and support the meaningful work happening in our schools each day.”
Ben previously served on the MASSP Board of Directors as the Assistant Principal Central Representative. He is a Traverse City Trojan through and through; a proud product of Traverse City Area Public Schools who began his career as a social studies teacher and has since served as assistant principal and now principal of Traverse City Central High School. He brings over a decade of administrative experience and nearly two decades in education to the role.
Ben’s leadership focuses on building systems that prioritize relationships, from fostering strong student connections to advancing innovative instruction, evidence-based grading, and authentic student voice. He is a collaborative, forward-thinking leader who cultivates inclusive, high-achieving school cultures. Ben brings a relational, bridge-building approach, and the energy, perspective, and dedication needed to strengthen the association and lead with purpose as President-Elect.
“We are excited to welcome Ben Berger back to the Board in this new leadership role,” said MASSP Executive Director Wendy Zdeb. “His commitment to innovation, building strong relationships and fostering meaningful school cultures will serve the association and our membership well. He has the vision and determination needed to lead the association forward as President-Elect.”
While we excitedly welcome several new Board members, we also say goodbye to four incredible leaders:
- Past President: JoLynn Clark, Frankenmuth High School Principal (7 years served)
- Region 9: Todd Distelrath, Chippewa Valley High School Principal (4 years served)
- AP East: Jessica Lupone, Bloomfield Hills High School Assistant Principal (2 years served)
- AP West: Aaron Romoslawski, Forest Hills Northern Public Schools Director of AI Strategy and Instructional Innovation (2 years served)
- At-Large: Valerie Boggan, Kalamazoo Central High School Principal (8 years served)
JoLynn Clark served the Board as the Region 4 Representative and on the Executive Board as President-Elect, President and Past-President. JoLynn’s consistent leadership on the MASSP Board, her dedication to innovation, and her involvement in key statewide initiatives stand out as the hallmarks of her service, demonstrating her passion for advancing student and staff success. Todd Distelrath volunteered on committees and actively supported aspiring administrators in achieving their goals. Jessica Lupone contributed her time and expertise through involvement on various committees and to Michigan Student Leadership. Aaron Romoslawski supported committee work and state-wide AI initiatives while also providing a strong commitment to developing aspiring leaders. Valerie Boggan brought a valuable perspective, history and long-standing dedication to the association.
MASSP Board service is a significant commitment and these five individuals fulfilled their duties with dedication and enthusiasm. We would like to sincerely thank JoLynn, Todd, Jessica, Aaron and Valerie for their combined 23 years of service on the MASSP BoD. Our achievements as an association would not be possible without great Board members like them at the helm.
Thank you to all the MASSP members statewide who participated in the election process to select colleagues for office who best represent the profession. It serves the membership well to have the best-of-the-best from each Region and position represented.
