Beginning Sept. 15, every Michigan public school will receive an individualized link to participate in the 2026 Michigan School Census, a statewide literacy and school library study led by Wayne State University and funded by the Michigan Legislature.
Participation from every type of school matters – whether your building has a fully staffed library, limited or shared services, or no dedicated library staff. The census is intended to create a clearer picture of literacy supports and school library services across Michigan that can help inform future policy and funding.
Watch for an email from MIschool2026@wayne.edu and make sure someone knowledgeable about your school’s literacy and library services completes the census. The individualized link may be forwarded to the appropriate staff member, and respondents will receive a $25 gift card upon completion.
Wayne State is also hosting a virtual Closing the Literacy Gap Symposium on Sept. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to noon featuring literacy researcher Dr. Molly Ness.
