Every leader’s journey begins somewhere.
For some, it begins when a teacher, coach or mentor sees something in them they cannot yet see in themselves.
For others, it begins when they are asked to lead a team, support a colleague, sponsor a student group or step into a role that stretches them beyond their comfort zone.
The paths are different, but the questions are often the same.
- Am I ready?
- Can I do this?
- Who can help me grow?
- What comes next?
Over the years, I have come to believe that each of us has untapped potential, and it is the responsibility of leaders to create the conditions where that potential can be discovered, developed, and realized. The reality is that few of us begin the journey with complete confidence or a clear roadmap. More often, growth begins when someone encourages us, opens a door, or helps us see a possibility we had not considered for ourselves.
One of the questions we hear most often from students, educators and leaders is, “Where do I start?”
The answer depends on where you are in your journey. The key is to not let perfect be the enemy of progress. We each need to take our next best step knowing an aspiring leader exploring administration has different needs than a first-year assistant principal. A veteran principal looking to strengthen a leadership pipeline has different needs than a district seeking support with strategic planning or school improvement. A student leader, a mentor coach and a superintendent each engage with MASSP in different ways.
What has often been missing is clarity. Not a lack of opportunities, but a way for people to see what is available, understand how it connects, and identify the opportunities that best align with their goals and context.
That is why we created the MASSP Leadership Pathways & Partnership Guide.
The guide serves as a front door into the many ways students, leaders, schools, and intermediate school districts can engage with MASSP and identify opportunities aligned to their next best step.
