Managing vaping waste streams presents unique safety and regulatory challenges. Discarded e-cigarettes and related products can pose a significant fire hazard. Moreover, many single-use vapes contain components that are toxic, reactive, and ignitable. Join us to learn about the management standards that apply to vaping waste under recently adopted federal regulations now implemented under Michigan’s environmental regulations. Hear from EGLE inspection staff about the hazards, the regulations, and some options schools have for managing vape waste streams confiscated from students to promote safety, compliance, and protect our environment. For a primer on this session, please see EGLE’s guidance on Nicotine Vapes, Safety and Disposal for Michigan Schools. An EGLE presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion session with the panel.
