Youth voice is one of the most powerful forces in tobacco prevention, and national groups like Truth Initiative and Tobacco-Free Kids have built entire movements around it. In partnership with the Youth Engagement Alliance, this session spotlights youth-driven advocacy campaigns, counter-marketing strategies, and supports that help students push back against commercial tobacco and vaping. Educators will learn how to bring meaningful advocacy opportunities into their schools and tap into the energy and leadership of their students.

Tobacco Free Kids: Nicolas Suarez is the Associate Director for Strategic Partnerships and Youth Advocacy at CTFK, leading the engagement of advocates across the country and advancing the organization’s goals. With over eight years of experience in organizing and political advocacy, Nicolas has a demonstrated ability of empowering others and advancing equity in public health.
Truth Initiative: Caroline Bennett Anderson is the Senior Manager of State & Local Partnerships at Truth Initiative. In her role, she provides technical assistance support to adults who work with youth across the country, trains community partners on best practices for youth organizing, and liaises with state and local health departments. She previously served as the adult coordinator for D.C.’s youth engagement program, NextGen Action, and coached youth advocates creating change in their own communities. Prior to joining Truth Initiative in 2021, Caroline held positions at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. She is deeply passionate about health equity and providing communities quality health information.
MASSP Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made ten (10) business days or more in advance of the training date, will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made after this date, including no-shows, are nonrefundable. Registration fees may be transferred to another individual by contacting the MASSP office at (517) 327-5315.
In the event that MASSP must cancel a training due to unforeseen circumstances, including inclement weather, participants will be refunded the cost of registration or may credit the fee toward an upcoming training. MASSP does not assume responsibility for any additional costs, charges or expenses; to include, charges made for travel and lodging.
