MASSP is accepting nominations for the Middle and High School Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year Awards, and this year, we’ve simplified the nomination process to make it easier to celebrate Michigan’s outstanding building leaders.
Last year’s honorees showed us just how many forms great leadership can take:
At Midland High School, Principal Tiela Schurman was recognized for leading with “heart and genuine care” and creating a culture of belonging, joy and success.
While at O.L. Smith Middle School, Principal Mark Rummel and Assistant Principal Maha Fayad made history as the first principal-AP team from the same school to receive the honors in the same year.
And in Mason, Assistant Principal Tara Becker-Utess of Mason High School was celebrated for building meaningful relationships while developing systems that directly support student achievement.

The nomination deadline has been extended to September 30, giving you more time to recognize a deserving colleague. Take a few moments to tell their story and help us celebrate the exceptional leaders serving Michigan students, staff and communities.
