Program Overview
Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University have partnered with MASSP’s Path to Leadership (PTL) program to offer PTL completers accelerated pathways to advanced degrees in Educational Leadership.
In acknowledgment of PTL’s success in preparing graduates for national certification exams and administrative roles, both CMU and WMU will grant up to 15 graduate credits through their approved alternative route programs. These credits can be applied toward the following degrees at either university:
- Master of Arts (M.A.) in Educational Leadership
- Specialist in Education (Ed.S.)
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this program, applicants must:
- Have successfully completed the Path to Leadership program
- Hold a valid state administrator certification (the certificate must be current for at least six months after the date of application for credit.)
- Meet all admission requirements for the chosen degree program at CMU or WMU
Program Benefits
This partnership offers significant benefits for PTL completers looking to earn advanced degrees:
- Accelerated Advancement—15 credits will transfer, reducing your total coursework
- Reduced Tuition—The degree will cost 50%–75% less than traditional routes
- Fully Online Coursework—Programs are designed for the schedules of working professionals
This program provides a streamlined, affordable pathway for working administrators to pursue advanced degrees while recognizing your prior learning experience – thus avoiding redundant coursework.
While the School Administrator Certificate earned through PTL meets MDE requirements for building leaders, earning an advanced degree can further strengthen leadership credentials and expand career opportunities.
