Supporting the 5D/5D+ Observation and Evaluation Process

Fivestar Technologies PIVOT tool is the digital platform used to support the 5D/5D+ observation, feedback and evaluation process. It features an advanced teacher evaluation platform integrated with Google Gemini AI to automatically generate professional performance summaries. It is notably the first software to earn official AI Validation from The Danielson Group. It provides administrators with a centralized location for managing each stage of the process, working with integrated rubrics, including the 5D/5D+ rubric, and maintaining observation and evaluation information within one consistent system.

Beyond evaluations, it functions as a central data warehouse for tracking student plans, curriculum mapping, and district-wide budgeting. PIVOT is designed to support, not replace, the professional judgment, evidence collection and conversations that are central to effective instructional leadership.

PIVOT Enhancements

Recent updates to PIVOT embed Google’s Gemini AI to fundamentally transform teacher evaluations. It’s advanced system provides additional tools to help evaluators organize evidence and develop meaningful feedback.

• AI-Supported Transcription Upload: Evaluators can upload transcripts in PDF, DOCX or TXT format to support the scripting and evidence-review process. The transcription feature is intended to improve accuracy and provide another way to review and summarize observation evidence.
• Areas of Focus Filtering: PIVOT allows evaluators to filter observation evidence by Areas of Focus and review evidence chronologically, making it easier to move from scripting into the noticing and wondering process.
• AI-Supported Feedback: PIVOT can generate a suggested feedback draft based on the scripted evidence collected during an observation. The tool evaluates Areas of Focus and draws only from the evidence entered into PIVOT, providing evaluators with a starting point for developing feedback using the CEL structure.

AI-generated feedback should be reviewed, personalized and refined by the evaluator before it is shared. The webinar materials specifically note that generated drafts may lack the personalization and understanding of growth over time that an evaluator brings to the process.

The AI-Supported Transcription Upload and AI-Supported Feedback tools will not be turned on by default. Your district assigned PIVOT Administrator must contact softwaresupport@fivestartech.com to turn these features on.

Using PIVOT in Your District

Districts can determine which of the enhanced PIVOT features are appropriate for their local implementation. The transcription, filtering and AI-supported enhancements can be enabled or disabled upon request, and additional training is available as districts incorporate the tools into their 5D/5D+ practices.
