Implementing Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy in Your School – 2 SCECHs
Did you know that the College Board offers free, official SAT practice through Khan Academy for students?  In this course, participants will learn about the statistical gains in performance students can see when using the personalized, online practice.  Modules will walk learners through the steps on how to link College Board and Khan Academy accounts, take practice tests, and how coaches can monitor student progress.

Introduction to Esports – 2 SCECHs
Esports is a billion-dollar industry teeming with career opportunities, college scholarships, and a wide range of STEM skills students can develop. In this course, educators will be introduced to the unique and exciting extracurricular activities available to students within esports. Whether you’re simply interested in learning more or thinking about starting your own team, this course will help you deepen your understanding of esports and reflect on your next steps.

Leadership Communication – 7 SCHECHs
The task of leadership is building collective efficacy. We need to get our teams to work and act as such, moving and doing with a shared purpose! As organizational leaders, our goal is to help make sense of our world and give that sense to others ensuring our schools and communities are responding to shared understanding. A leader’s communication competency determines their capacity for success. Primary tenets of communication, building a culture, and understanding generational and cultural expectations will prepare you for the inevitable crisis that will occur and allow you to leverage your competency in communication to reduce harm and restore normalcy.

Leading Collaborative Meetings in a Virtual World – 6 SCECHs
Virtual meetings have become the new normal and may forever change the way some teams interact. However true, if collaboration is the true belief system of the organization, both individuals and teams will transfer the “brick-and-mortar” practices to the virtual world. Successful teams understand the importance of setting norms, having clearly defined outcomes, creating space for balanced talk, embracing cognitive conflict, and reflecting on the functioning and learning of the team. Learners will be presented with content in the form of slides, articles, websites, and videos and will be assessed through reflection, short answer questions, matching, and multiple choice. Participants are encouraged to implement the learning and to submit samples of competency.

Project Gameplan: Keeping Compliant Scenarios (Self-Paced) – 6 SCECHs
As part of MASSP’s Digital Learning Network, these self-facilitated courses will provide learners with the opportunity to review and understand important laws put in place to protect students and the school community. Topics to be covered include: Mandatory Reporting, Zero-Tolerance, and Anti-Bullying. In the course modules, learners will review basic laws and requirements, as well as how to interpret those requirements in a school building when working with students and staff. These modules provide a variety of learning activities including scenario games, quizzes, case studies, reflect & respond questions, as well as document and video reviews. Learners will also be able to compare and contrast their current building and district policies to the current laws.

Student Mental Health 101: Trends, What To Do & Who Can Help – 6 SCECHs
This course will focus on providing educators with options and strategies working with students with mental health issues.  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will review current statistical trends, identify individuals in the school setting who are equipped to support these students and explain how outside agencies can be part of the solution as well.  Additional training is used to assist participants in how to respond to a student mental health crisis.

Trauma-Informed Schools: A Whole School Approach – 6 SCECHs
This course aims to answer the following questions: What is a trauma-informed approach and how does it impact the classroom?  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will identify key trauma statistics and terminology and compare and contrast proactive vs reactive strategies to support these students in the classroom.  The course will also provide building-level strategies and resources.  

Using AP Potential for Opportunity and Access – 1 SCECH
Advanced Placement courses help students pursue college level studies while still in high school.  Principals and AP Coordinators can use AP Potential to help identify students based on PSAT/SAT scores and benchmark performance who would likely be successful in various AP courses.  In this course, learners will see an overview of the AP Potential system as well as statistical data behind the success of the Advanced Placement program for students.  

Using Surveys for Feedback (Self-Paced) – 5 SCECHs
Taking the time to gather and analyze feedback is a crucial practice when working with students, staff, parents and community members. Many times, we are willing to create a survey or assessment tool but lack the courage to accept the responses that are provided. In this course, learners will review different ways to gather feedback from crucial stakeholder groups that impact their building, survey bias and how they can use the results to provide evidence of improvement or to create a plan for growth. Learners will leave this course with a plan on how to survey a specific group of people so they begin reflecting on their own practice.

Hybrid

A Practical Approach to Using NWEA Data – 6 SCECHs
The intentional use of NWEA MAP data by teachers to inform instruction can be overwhelming and frustrating. Setting up a structure to support teachers with this practice will alleviate those frustrations and empower teachers to find value in the data. In this course, participants will learn about creating an atmosphere for assessment success, develop a more complete understanding of the data, learn to use reports to reflect on growth, and will plan for instruction using the data and resources provided.

A Teacher’s Guide to Khan Academy – 8 SCECHs (*Updated to reflect changes to the Digital SAT!)
Khan Academy is a free resource teachers can use to assign lessons and monitor student progress.  With thousands of free lesson resources including questions, videos, quizzes and unit tests, Khan Academy is a great resource for any teacher.  Khan Academy even offers personalized SAT practice for students and allows coaches to monitor Math & ELA SAT skills.  This course features videos, resources and other materials including feedback on assignments in order to get set up and start running with this game changing platform.  Participants will learn from Erin Carlson, an ELA teacher and Khan Academy Student Ambassador from Sandusky Jr/Sr High School. 

Administrator Simulator: Staff Accountability
How do you get various staff to meet their professional responsibilities and your expectations?  In this course, individuals or teams will complete a simulation on holding staff accountable and review decision-making skills while comparing practices across buildings or the district.  A facilitation guide is provided to stimulate critical thinking before, during and after the simulation is played, as well as provide opportunities for alignment of current practices.

Administrator Simulator: Staff Social Media
What is your expectation for staff using social media?  In this scenario, Walid, a high school French teacher, gets involved in a couple of different predicaments with the use of his own social media account, as well as,  his response to the use of a student’s social media account.  Multiple decisions are required by the administrator regarding social media, free speech,  Title IX implications, staff discipline and more.   

Administrator Simulator: Student Discipline
How do you handle complicated investigations in regard to student discipline?  In this course, you will handle a complaint against Alex, a 10th grader with below-average grades who is socially awkward, most noticeably with his female classmates.  Prior to entering the 10th grade, Alex had minimal disciplinary notes on his record.  Over the summer Alex reaches out to several of his classmates through social media.  Many of those classmates are girls from his choir class the previous year.  At the kick-off of the school year, Alex is enrolled in choir again with many of the same members.  By October, it becomes apparent to the choir teacher that several female students are avoiding Alex.  After overhearing a group of girls snickering about him and his attempts to talk to them over the summer, the choir teacher pulls aside Becky for more information.  Becky explains that over the summer Alex continuously messaged her on Instagram and sent her inappropriate content…

Administrator Simulator: Student Social Media & Free Speech (Coming Soon)
Victoria is a freshman high school student and just found out she didn’t make the varsity basketball team.  As a year round, travel basketball player,  she is livid she didn’t make the team and makes her opinion of the school, coach and other players be known on Snapchat.  Should the district respond? What happens when the social media posts go viral and others respond and chime in? The entire basketball season is affected by social media and free speech and it’s the administration’s job to keep it under control.   What would you do?

Administrator Simulator: Title IX
Are you up to date with the newest Title IX requirements? In this course, you will be handle an investigation revolving Brenda and Andrew, two middle school students, who are dating.  On a Friday night, Andrew is at his friend’s house with two other male students.  Andrew and his friends convince Brenda to send them each a nude photo of herself.  After the Saturday football game, Andrew and Brenda break up.  That night, the photo that Brenda had sent was circulated over text message amongst her middle school peers…

Creating a Data-Driven Culture – 20 SCECHs
Intended for non-statisticians, this course focuses on how to collect, analyze and make use of data to improve all aspects of student achievement. Upon completion of the course, motivated educators will become adept users of multiple types of data from various sources in decision making.

Curriculum, Instruction & Alignment – 30 SCECHs
The objective of this course is to develop the knowledge, skills, personal dispositions and performance competencies that pertain to administrative leadership and school improvement. These research-based standards require the development of instructional leaders who understand how to effectively apply evidence-based school leadership practices to support the implementation and refinement of a guaranteed and viable curriculum within their organizational systems. Participants will be prepared to create a plan of implementation, monitoring, support, and evaluation that will lead to the vertical and horizontal alignment of their educational institution.

Instructional Supervision in a Remote Environment – 16 SCECHs
In this on-demand and self-paced course, learners will engage with topics and strategies to become efficient instructional leaders of remote learning environments. Topics covered include new administrator roles & responsibilities, remote teaching frameworks, remote environment walk-throughs, evaluations, and student achievement data.  Assignments will require learners to review observation practices, reflect on different needs and skills required in different learning environments, and apply practices from the remote teaching framework all while receiving personalized feedback from a content expert.

Observation & Feedback – 30 SCECHs
Throughout this 6-week course, we will explore both state requirements and best practices in the areas of observation, supervision, and evaluation. We will be reading content related to formative feedback, will be engaging with feedback structures, will engage in an authentic case-study, and will work together to refine our skillsets in the area of supporting teachers with their instructional growth. This course is focused on skill refinement, will require interaction, and reflection.

Response to Intervention – 15 SCECHs
RTI (Response to Intervention)  is a component of our MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports) in Michigan, but is the foundation for all of our work in our MICIP plans and school improvement.  Having a data-driven RTI, ensures you are focused on student learning and improving instruction via intervention which will impact all students.  The question that lingers is, what about students that are not proficient, or lack individual growth due to COVID? This course will provide the foundation for your work to identify and provide tiers of support based on the individual needs of your students.

School Culture: Creating an Inclusive Environment for All Learners – 30 SCECHs
This course focuses on examining the diversity of students and staff within a school community.  Diversity is explored as the range of groups represented by staff, students, families and the community, which includes, but is not limited to, race/ethnicity, culture, language, gender, and sexual orientation. Secondly, participants explore the impact of culture (individual and shared attitudes, beliefs and values) on teaching and learning within a school, and research-based practices to address the achievement of all students. 

School Improvement & Alignment – 30 SCECHs
It seems that continuous improvement has often become a task and can be viewed as somewhat of a buzzword in education. Likewise, continuous improvement does not always mean that a school or district is actually executing, the plan in a systematic or systemic way. Continuous improvement also requires schools to have the on-staff knowledge, skills, and the shared ownership needed to improve achievement and sustain improvement over a sustained period of time. This course will guide participants through an authentic improvement process that is focused on teaching and learning. Instructional content will build an understanding of the critical components of each of the stages of school improvement; Gather, Study, Plan and Do. The required activities will guide participants through a process that will help to ensure effective implementation of any activity and/or strategy by providing a laser focus on implementation, support, and monitoring and evaluating of the agreed upon improvement practices.

School Law 101: What Principals Must Know – 27 SCECHs
The current culture of litigation against schools has changed leadership.  This course explores Michigan Common Law (MCL) and state statutes related to the administration of schools, including student rights and responsibilities, and school safety/operations management.  Participants learn how to search and interpret law, analyze potential impact and application on board policies, and develop administrative guidelines for implementation.

School Safety: Best Practices – 27 SCECHs
This course deepens participants understanding of the societal issues that impact student safety and well-being, socio-emotional development and academic learning, as well as the importance of safe and orderly school environments that are conducive to learning for all students. Participants explore proactive, school-wide approaches and classroom best practices for developing a safe, caring and productive learning community that embraces the diversity of staff, students, and community. School safety and security, bullying and harassment, violence prevention and crisis planning and intervention are addressed.
